Leather Maintenance

What’s leather?
Choosing leather furniture is choosing a wonderful natural product; it is durable, has style and is easy to maintain. Although only the best leather is used for furniture, it can happen that you find scars in the leather from insect bites, thorn and horn scratches. These are typical characteristics of real leather as opposed to synthetic leather. A new leather sofa will feel stiff at first and have a sterile look. It takes some time to become inviting.

After a while it will have a casual look or some wrinkles will begin to develop. This is because of the leather’s natural elasticity, which is one of the characteristics of leather. You don’t have to worry about it, because it has been taken into account when the sofa was made.  Fillings and springs adapt quite early after you buy the sofa. They lose 10 to 15% their stiffness, after which they remain quite constant, creating with the leather upholstery an optimal seating comfort.

How to keep the leather in good condition?
The properties of leather furniture and its maintenance basically depend on whether or not it has a protective layer. For the daily maintenance, cleaning the leather with a wet chamois is fine. Always use distilled water and make sure the chamois is clean and doesn’t contain synthetic soap and/or other cleansers such as methylated spirits, benzene, etc.

For the periodic maintenance, it is best to use Leather Master Protection Cream. This product penetrates into the leather and gives it an invisible protective coating. Dirt, greases, liquid spills and dye from jeans have no chance to penetrate the leather. Coke, coffee, felt-tip pen and alcohol stains can be removed easily.

The product is suitable for both pigmented, semi aniline leather and aniline leather. You obtain the best results by applying the Protection Cream preventively, so that dirt won’t get a chance to penetrate. In order to keep the leather in good condition, you should, as indicated in the user manual, repeat this treatment three times a year (for reclining chairs preferably four times).
