“As a daughter of a furniture manufacturer, I’ve been involved in furniture design and construction since my early childhood”, says Saskia. “My parents founded Veva in 1972 and developed it over the years into a well-established international company in the furniture business. They made oak furniture, which was supplied to quality furniture shops.”
”Because his clients often asked my father whether he could renew the cushions of previously delivered living room furniture, he decided in 1987 to set up Konforta.” The living room and cushion workshop Konforta was born; the main activity consisted in reupholstering old furniture and creating new seat cushions.
Saskia studied interior architecture at the Sint-Lucas in Gent. After graduating in 1992, she decided to join the family business. “I gained thorough product knowledge while studying the different aspects of the furniture business. In addition, I participated in several international furniture fairs, which gave me a good insight into the supply and demand dynamics on the furniture market.” Saskia also ran a Sleepy shop in Bruges for five years, where she developed a unique know-how in the field of sleeping comfort.
